Producer Profile

Cristiano Guttarolo is a natural wine producer located in Gioia del Colle, Puglia, Italy. He began his journey as a winemaker in 2004, after taking over the family vineyards. Guttarolo's vineyards are located on the Murge plateau, where he cultivates a variety of indigenous grape varieties, including Primitivo, Negroamaro, Susumaniello, and Bianco d'Alessano. He is passionate about preserving the unique terroir of his region, and his wines are a reflection of this commitment.

Wine Region

Puglia, the "heel" of Italy, has a winemaking tradition extending over 2,000 years, initiated by the ancient Greeks. Its wines flourished during the Roman era and further evolved in the Middle Ages through monastic vineyards.

Once known for bulk wine, modern Puglia emphasizes quality, producing wines that mirror its terroir and heritage. With the rise of natural wine trends, Puglia has also embraced these sustainable practices.

Spanning the southeastern coast, areas like Salento, Taranto, Bari, and Foggia each offer unique wine profiles due to varying microclimates and soils. The Mediterranean climate, moderated by sea breezes, combined with diverse soils, cultivates grapes for robust, full-bodied wines.

Puglia specializes in indigenous grapes like Primitivo, a red with fruity notes, and Negroamaro, known for its deep color. Whites like Verdeca pair well with the region's seafood-rich cuisine, while reds like Primitivo complement heartier dishes.

Additionally, Puglia's trulli, traditional stone huts, often serve as wine cellars. Its ancient olive trees produce renowned olive oil, enhancing the region's reputation beyond just wine.
